Minutes of the 71st Annual General meeting of the Cornwall Veteran ladies Golf    association held at Truro Golf |Club 14th September 2026

Presidents opening remarks

Welcome Ladies to our 71st AGM and thank you all for attending this Autumn Meeting.

You will hear from our representatives as to how successful our year has been and financial statement so I won’t duplicate those as I know we like to keep these meetings as short as possible.

I would just like to say a big thank you to our Captain Secretary Treasurer and committee members for all their support and hard work. It’s easy sometimes to forget how much organisation goes into these events behind the scenes but without their dedication this Society would not be able to continue.

I offer my best wishes for the remainder of this meeting and for the coming year

Apologies

Too many to list.

Captains Report

The year started in earnest at our Spring Meeting held at St Austell Golf Club on the 18 May. At the last AGM we altered the division handicaps to:

Division 1 – 1 to 26.4

Division 2 – 26.5 up.

This resulted in a field of 27 players in division 1, 34 in division 2.

I was so pleased for our lady president, Sally Stacey, winning division 1 on count back….to me!!

Well done to Sandra Lloyd who won the bronze division.

The feedback on the day was how everyone enjoyed it, how well it was run and how good the meal was.

My thanks has to go to the committee who helped out, Sue Goddard who did the raffle, Sue Pascoe who was offering herself up for all positions….Jamie the chef and the Team behind the scenes at St Austell golf club who made the day so enjoyable.

SW Shield Matches

Only one has been played as Somerset could not field a team without contravening the SW Vets constitution i.e they played more than 2 members from the course the event was played at. However a Somerset Team was fielded so we treated the competition as a friendly. Cornwall won 4/3 at Taunton and Pickeridge.

The shield match v Devon took place at Carlyon Bay. We won 6 ½ – ½.

Cornwall Vets v Captains Society 7.09.26 at Carlyon Bay

This event resulted in a halved match therefore the vets have retained the shield for a further year.

My observations of the above events are that all have been played in a really competitive but good atmosphere. Not only do we get on well together but also reach out to the opposition with kindness and (from some of the giggling I heard) a good sense of humour.

Isn’t this what it all should be about?

I have tried to include as many different clubs/ players as possible.

This year I have played 35 different players from 12 different clubs, other clubs and players were approached but unavailable for their own personal reasons.

My thanks go out to those who stepped in at last minute on occasion. As we get older it is inevitable that some people withdraw close to the date.

We have held 2 events at Carlyon Bay this year, the Administration Team there also made my life so easy, it really does make such a difference.

Now to the committee surrounding me, a massive thank you, how lucky I am. Special thanks also to Sue Dicker who I work with on the SW Vets, sorry for all the interruptions when you are with the Grandchildren!!!

I am sure you are all aware of the Cornwall Vets Website that has been created this year, I hope you are all finding it useful, we have to thank James Potter for creating it and managing the updates on it.

A big thank you to all the delegates who keep banging the gong and letting you know what events are on, without you we would struggle.

Last but not least a big thank you to all of our members…without you we wouldn’t exist.

Secretary’s Report

I think everyone else will cover all areas.

Nita reminded Mel about the Championships.

Mel stated that it had not been possible to play the 2026 Championships yet but would try to organise for October 2026.

Div 1 : Sue Wenmoth v Kathy Wells

Div 2 : Pat Greenwood v Sue Dicker

Championships 2027 will hopefully be played at the usual time.

Div 1 : Sally Stacey v Mandy Dennison

Div 2 : Sandra Lloyd v Carol West

Treasurers Report

Firstly, I must apologise for not being at the Autumn meeting this year. Nita hopefully will be reading out my report, and I trust all will be clear.

The Accounts cover the 12 months to 31 May 2026. The figures for 2026 are shown in the left-hand column and the comparatives are on the right.

In June 2025 we played an away match against Devon incurring travel costs of £238.80. Then in September, we played a home match at Newquay against Somerset followed by a Devon Match at Carlyon Bay in May 2026. The Green fees and meals cost the Society £1885.20, and we collected £780 in match fees from the players. We receive £20 from each player. You will see that the matches do result in a significant cost to the Society. Dorset did not play in the league this year.

Total receipts for the year amounted to £4356.50 and expenditure was £4916.90. Due to our expenditure exceeding our income, we incurred a deficit of £560.41.  We had 210 members joining this year, up from 205 in the earlier year, this raised £1050 which goes some way towards offsetting the cost of the matches. We only held the Spring Meeting at St Austell this year as our Autumn Meeting at Truro had to be cancelled twice due to the severe weather. 65 people played in the Spring Meeting, and it was a very enjoyable day. The raffle raised £245 and after paying for the meals, green fees and vouchers amounting to £2560, we had a small deficit of £40.00.

Sundry expenditure amounted to £181.49. This was made up of the SW affiliation fees, engraving costs, and examiners fees plus a gift to Carol Peck for her services as Secretary over the years.

Due to the deficit this year our cash reserves have decreased from £3598.91 at the start of the year to £3038.50 on 31 May 2026.

Finally, I would like to thank Chris Smith for kindly examining and checking the accounts this year.

Any Other Business

Sue Dicker raised the question of the SW Vets Shield matches viability.

Due to Devon and Somerset struggling to put together teams.

The following was discussed :

Do we still want to play the matches?

Would we consider reducing the team numbers to 5 pairs instead of 7?

It was pointed out that Cornwall has no problem raising a team and it gives lots of members a chance to play different course and compete against new people.

A show of hands was used to give Sue an idea of what the CVLCGA thoughts were:

“We want to keep the Shield matches as they are but we will consider cutting the size of the team if necessary.”

This was widely supported.

Next delegates meeting is provisionally Monday 1st February 2027 11.00 at Perranporth Golf Club.
